It’s time to mend.

Therapy & Consulting on the North Shore and online across British Columbia

Real information, no jargon

You have likely landed here, because your symptoms have become intrusive. Anxiety, anger or nightmares are hard to ignore but what about the more subtle signs? Strained relationships, numbness, avoidance, lack of motivation and irritability also have a huge impact in your life.

Here are some of the concrete approaches we can use together outlined in (hopefully!) an approachable way.

Calm your alert system

You’re making toast and the fire alarm goes off. You can’t seem to make it stop. The police and fire trucks arrive causing a commotion. But there was never a fire. In the same way, your brain’s own smoke detector is being set off, even when there isn’t danger. Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) calms your alert system.  I am a certified EMDR therapist & EMDR Consultant in training.

Release what is being held

A zebra is chased by a lion but narrowly escapes to the tall grass. Forgetting the energy of the moment, the zebra shakes it off and returns to grazing. But our minds and bodies can hold the energy from the past, making it seem like it is happening now.  Weaving in Somatic Experiencing® techniques helps to release what your body is holding.

Here are some beginning exercises to get you started

What’s on the nervous system menu?

When we are triggered or just plain frazzled we need to know how to dial down. Together let’s figure out what your system needs to calm upset spaces. Try this trigger sheet and grounding exercises to get started.
